Sick Little Baby

Feb. 12th | Posted by 6 comments

It was our first time having a sick baby the last two days… Poor Sugar didn’t eat a lunch, supper, breakfast and lunch again. Yesterday she was lack-lustre, but this morning she was just pitifully tired and bedridden.  Poor dear.  Obviously she had the stomach flu (although being first time parents we still called my BF who is a family physician, just to make sure she didn’t have appendicitis or something.)

Of course, we had a date planned (and a babysitter) tonight – we finally decided after Sugar ate some plain rice that we would go out for supper, but not for a movie etc as planned.  Well, when we got back she was acting quite spry again, and I was secretly wishing we had gone to the movie! But we were just worried about her. Guess we can check that off the new parent box, now -
Sick kid – check!

I’m just so glad it was Jrock’s day off, since I had meetings for a bunch of time today.  You can see she fell asleep on him a couple times today. I want to know, what the heck do we do if she is scheduled for daycare and then gets sick?  I guess that’s a box further down the list.

Just for a laugh, Spice has been relishing the attention with her sleeping sister out of the way – here she is checking (we’re not sure what! on) a horse in her room.  We do know it was surgery of some kind. lol

My five-year-old has been sick off and on for the past few weeks with a lingering kind of flu. I only work a few hours a week, but have had to cancel on clients/colleagues twice because I can’t take him to my child care person when he’s sick with the flu. The standard I always use is to think about whether I’d want someone else’s child in my home if they were as sick as my kid is…so, a minor cold wouldn’t warrant my keeping him home, but much more than that means that he (and I) stay at home.

It’s really tough at times! All the best making your way through first time sickness!

awe, poor babe! we’ve been in sick land too. All 4 kids have cycled through a nasty cold over the last 2 weeks. poor boys get it sooo bad…fevers, deep chesty coughs that leave them gasping for breath. Noah had 4 nights in a row waking up every half hour!! of course that equals crazy sleep dep mama who can’t remember her own name…lol. ahh well…vit C, zinc, echinacea and lots of fruit seems to put them on the mend…and a good does of belladonna for the feverish baby, he still says he’s a baby…unless of course he wants to do something the big kids are doing, then it “I’m a big boy mama…I’m 3!!”

I love Spices examination pic!! maybe taking horses temp??

why the heck would you name your daughter SUGAR?! do you want her to be made fun of all her life? seriously, why didnt you give her a normal name or a nice simple ethiopian name like Liya or something. I have friends who adopt and they said the child’s self esteem is most important for kids who are adopted.

That would be a crazy thing to do – name your kid Sugar! Especially when her sister is referred to as Spice! lol

Sorry to disapoint, but those are just blog names. I can assure you, that in real life, they have lovely Ethiopian / Canadian names. We just don’t use them on-line!
