A week in Calgary
We spent a week in Calgary – sad circumstances brought us there (the passing of my grandfather) but it was still a good visit with family and friends. The girls and I travelled the first night to Invermere and stayed at my sister’s house, then continued onto Calgary. Jrock joined us for the last of five days in Calgary, flying in late night on a many-times delayed flight. But then we had a really nice two day drive home, stopping at Emerald Lake Lodge in Yoho National Park halfway.
There are a bunch of pictures from the week below. My favorites are the two large ones, both on the theme of family resemblance. The snowsuit pic at Emerald Lake is one of the few pictures of the girls where they look pretty identical (to me.) And I cherish this picture of my Grandma and I, even if it was a sad day. I felt really close to her – and because it’s one of the few photos where you really can see how I look like her.
- Stopping for icecream on the long trip to Invermere. they deserved it! They travel so well.
- They were so brave to stand beside the “pretend bears” in the cold for a “roadie” shot!
- Making pizzas at Auntie Ena’s house.
- Auntie Ena and Uncle M with one of their many feline family members. (She is a crazy cat lady.)
- Crashing a party at L & K’s house, where we stayed for five days. They were awesome hosts.
- It’s so fun to brush Leo’s hair and play with his toys!
- Eating brekkie with their sorta-cousin (my godson) Leo.
- Mauling Mowgli, Uncle B’s lovely new puppy. Nona made those dreses for me and my sis when we were little.
- The professional side-flourish-finish. It’s fun when you are bundled to your teeth in down and fleece.
- Come on Gramma! When’s the last time you played on a slide? (She went down it!)
- Frolicking in the over-crisp Calgary air. FrEEEEzing!
- Keeping busy at Auntie T’s house, wearing a sweaters made by Gramma.
- Nona and Grandpa out at a restaurant.
- Spice showing the grown-ups her best restaurant manners.
- Sugar. The highlight of our trip for the girls! A C-train ride (complete with blizzard conditions at both stations.)
- Spice was so happy – she missed the train last time when she broke her collarbone.
- Uncle M hoisting Sugar at the Science Centre.
- Auntie Ena and Sugar exploring at the Science Centre.
- Not sure what shopping has to do with science, but I think this was their favorite part.
- Taking pics with Auntie D, who they met for the first time this trip.
- The girls were awesome – not a peep in an hour long mass, and great manners at the reception too.
- My Gramma and I.
- The gorgeous Yoho National Park – my fav by far. This was the sun rising on a cold cold day.
- The girls had fun exploring in their snowsuits – we will have to go back when we have more time.
- You wouldn’t know this was the coldest temp they had ever experienced, from the joy on their little faces! Sugar / Spice

I’m sorry for your loss.
Your girls are so sweet…I just don’t understand how they can smile in that weather! Honestly, I am a born and raised prairie girl and anything below + 20 makes me cringe.

Unfortunate circumstances, but it looks like it was a great opportunity for the girls to visit and hang out with family!
You are so blessed to have such a connected family! To be able to grieve and celebrate together is such a gift. I love the pic of you and your Grandma…maybe one day you could post a pic of her when she was your age?
Yoho is stunning…and your girls frolicking in the snow! mmm, makes me really want to drive to see/play in some snow…will winter ever come to this valley? ((sigh))

Ah, she was a lot better looking than me…
And skinnier too. True be told, she was a hottie. Serious!
Seriously? Crazy cat lady? I think the bleaders need to know that I only have 3 cats – how does that make me any crazier than you (with your two dogs, two cats and twins)?! Hee hee hee.
In any case, thanks for posting the photos – with the one, big, obvious exception, it was a really fun weekend.
I love the snowsuit shots – we’ll transform those girls into true northerners yet! (despite the fact that they live in sunnyville..)
