Sugar and Mommy - and Baby and Mommy Beluga. It was raining like the dickens.

Sugar and Mommy - and Baby and Mommy Beluga. It was raining like the dickens.

A week ago we drove for an overnight (which turned into two nights away) in Vancouver. We visited my BF, went to the aquarium, ate Ethiopian food, shopped at IKEA, and showed the girls the ocean.

Every day since one of our daily reading selections (we read about 4 books a day) has been Baby Beluga! (I wonder why???)

Auntie S and Uncle T taste Ethiopian for the first time (outside of our house.) The girls packed it away!

Our kids are pretty awesome travelers - they are sleepers/singers in the car, neat eaters in restaurants, and generally pleasant company.  Which is great, because we really do like to travel about.  They handled the two nights in the hotel with the dogs great too - but were glad to be home with their stuff and familiar surroundings when we got back.  It was a really nice get away for us; especially for me, since I’ve been feeling quite cooped up since we got home. Enjoy the pictures!

  1. Looks like fun!! …baby beluga was Noah’s favorite book for his first 3 years too…we’ve since shifted to the lion king and things about dragons/dinosaurs and trains. nice for mama, dad and Eden who have read Baby Beluga a LOT!!

Happy trails too you!! you have been blessed by happy travelers! Looking forward to hearing of your many adventures!

  2. oh, did you go for Ethiopian food at that place on Broadway?

  3. Ahhh..you were in my neck of the woods!!! We have a membership at the Aquarium, so we go all the time! I grew up with Raffi songs! My boys love Baby Beluga. When Nick was a baby, we took him to Greece and he was crying the whole 5 hour drive from Athens to Kalamata, unless I sang it to him. Whenever I stopped, he screamed… I actually went to a teaching conference last year and Raffi was the guest speaker. I brought my copy (same as your picture) and told him that story, and he signed it for the boys. I felt like an idiot, but I actually cried…lame!
I wish I could have gotten a chance to see you and your fam when you came down. It’s so nice to meet people in person! Maybe next time. I hope you enjoyed your trip!

  4. Those are great pictures! So glad to hear that the girls are adjusting well and that they are good travellers. All our kids are good travellers too and we have taken full advantage over the years, many long road trips and plane rides with no complaints. I have discovered (as I see that you have as well) that being prepared makes all the difference.

  5. Claire - that’s so funny - my mom saw Raffi at a Teacher’s conference last year too! I wonder if it was the same one.

Yes, we’re flying a ltitle low now - too many people to meet (relatives and close friends) when we go off to the big citites :-) but in the future we’d like to meet uptoo!

Jenn - ye, it was the place on Broadway. The lady was super nice - but the owner/cook asked us wierd questions about child trafficing and criticized my hairdos for the girls. Said I should research tribal hair… what?!? Like the girls are not related to the Mowalks some how? lol Anyway, the food was good….
