Sunday morning news

I talked to Nicky last night and things are going well.  A lawyer from BDO dunwoody visited with the parents yesterday in Addis.  An anonymous corporate donor has agreed to fund the transistion home until all waiting for VISA and pre court children are home.  This is really great news to everyone who is waiting and worrying at home! At the present time, there is no need for donations because of the sponsorship provided.  The lawyer indicated to Nicky that the high commission in Nairobi has met and will be doing everything possible to rush Visas.  Already several Visas came in on Friday and families will be travelling soon to pick up their children.   Our documents are currently in Addis and will hopefully be sent to Nairobi soon.

Sugar and Spice are doing well.  Overall, they are adjusting well, but do have some setbacks from time to time which is to be expected.  Nicky says they are very intelligent and have already picked up a dozen words.  She said they are extremely neat and tidy and can eat a bowel of cornflakes in bed without spilling any.  They can pick me out in a photo book and kiss the page and say “Daddy”.  I talked to them a little on the phone last night.

As an aside, the DVR I just bought for the satellite just paid for itself.  I was able to watch a small interview with Nicky and see her and the kids together in video for the first time.  What a treat!  Nicky wanted to do the interview for me to see the kids because she can’t get pictures to me.  Nicky was on CBC Newsworld weekend morning edition.

I have booked time off work and I am planning to travel after the August long weekend.  Hopefully the Visas come while I am there and we can travel home together with the kids!

    JRock,

What a treat for you – I bet that dish has more than paid for itself. How many times have you watched it over? :o )

I hope that the rest of July goes by quickly and that soon you are all together and can come home as a family of 4.

    Hi,

Once again, some great news! Please keep the info coming along, you have no idea how much it means to us. My wife and I have a daughter, Tsion, in the transition house and are not quite ready to travel yet. Perhaps after the middle of next week as we hope to find out the status of our doccuments by then.

Once again thanks for the news from the front line. Much love Michael & Diana

any idea how the rest of us folks can watch the interview with Mrs Nicky and S&S?? those of us without the blessed DVR satellite (I don’t even know what that means, lol) I checked out the CBC website but the seem not so eager to hand out info..not to this un-tech savvy girl anyway.

We here in the Dybdal household just breathed a big sigh of relief! This news is so welcome after a week of such scary stressful sadness.
I’m glad that Jrock was able to see Nicky and the girls!

Sending your family good vibes that the visas will come in while you’re there so you can travel home as a family. Glad to hear that things are going well for Nicky and the girls.

I am so happy that things are going well for your family and that Nicky was able to take custody of the girls. I hope the wait is short and the visas arrive in record time.

Good, too, to get this news direct from Addis. Most other news I’m seeing is second (or third or fourth) hand, so it’s super to hear things from the front lines of where the children are at and what is happening with the TH. Excellent that the children currently there will be looked after and all those with referrals will continue to be processed – though sad that others had to be sent back to their orphanages, and that so many families waiting for referral are still in limbo. Let’s hope these families will also receive some good news at some point in the not too distant future, in this horrible horrible situation.

I saw Nicky on the news Sunday night. She did a fantastic job and the girls are adorable! Cant wait to see you all together. Please keep updating, I love hearing how things are going – some good news in the middle of all the unknown right now is nice.
