I am a sewing machine
Winter is still upon us, and I needed a quiet evening hobby that didn’t involve the TV or the computer. So I was out ‘window’ shopping for the girls the other day (ok, so, I bought stuff – but I intended to window shop) – and I thought “why not make them some clothes?” By the time they get here, it will be summer, and almost all of their clothes are long-sleeved and jeans. So I went to the fabric store and spend three hours picking out a couple of patterns and fabric. $90 later – I have a bunch of clothes to make and a whole bunch of non-computer downtime fun!
Now, I’m pretty proud of how my first garments turned out – I haven’t sewn anything since I was 15 and decided the MC Hammer pants I was putting together were fading into un-fashiondom. I have sewn a lot since – but not clothes.
So I’m really proud of myself! I managed to follow the pattern for some basic red T-shirt jersey shorts, and then I modified them into cute bloomers- they now have wide soft elastic on the legs, and a draw-string waist – which is perfect for growing girls. They’ll probably last a couple years, actually.
My mom is also sewing them a few things – but the joy of sewing is that there is no way they will end up the same.
The realy funny thing is that all the stuff I picked out is for matching, or same style / different fabric outfits. This is really wierd, since I’m not a twin-matching kind of gal. BUT, it’s way easier to make two of everything, let me tell you! So matching outfits, here we come!
Anyway… stayed tuned for more custom creations!

They are very cute! I completed a couple of quilts and I have actually tossed around the idea of sewing some outfits together myself. But following complicated patterns. Hmmm. You did a Great job!

Good for you! I can’t even sew a button on, isn’t that what glue is for? just kidding!
So cute!!! I love them! I can just piture two sets of little legs poking out with cute little sandals and cherry red toe nails…oh boy, do I need a daughter……I am over accessorizing already!

Soo cute! Great job.
I’m starting to sew a few things too. I haven’t sewn anything since grade 10. I’ve made a wrap and a little fleece jumper.
Can’t wait to see more that you are making.
I am very impressed with your mad sewing skillz.
I am impressed as one who does not know how to sew. About the twin matching thing – I had cousins growing up whose mom matched them every day – they were a year apart and I thought “how lame. I’d never do that to my kids” and now, I’m totally THAT mom. My girls don’t match every day but they almost always at least have coordinating clothes and they are a full three years apart. Sad, but true.
