Nesting
I really don’t find this wait half as difficult as waiting for a referral. Honestly, now we have something (someones!) to wait for. We have their pictures in most rooms of the house, just pasted on the walls… we speculate about their personalities, discuss different attachment, parenting, development, play, etc. issues, and even get to “nest”.
Last weekend we started on the girls’ room – Jrock and I painted it in 2 days. Then we put the beds together that we acquired last week. They are lovely 50+ year old twin beds – just perfect for our girls. We had to do a little renoing of the beds, since they had old fashioned, too tall, too springy and finger-pinching springs. But with new slats and waferboard bottoms, they were ready to go – rubber covered mattresses and all.
We also purchased another quilt this week. Jrock got me the first one 1 1/2 ago for our ‘cotton’ wedding anniversary. But now we need two! So we tracked down the lady who made it and sold it at the Farmer’s market, and bought another similar quilt. Pretty cute, eh?
So the room is NOT finished – there are no fish in the fish tank – I thought the girls could pick them out when they get home. My sister is doing some murals on the walls over Christmas. And there are lots of other things… but it’s started. We will be installing a new light fixture soon – care to weigh in on your choice? The green chandelier (a bit larger than the picture) or the aged bronzed chandelier?

I’m happy you confirmed that the wait for court is easier. I’ve been thinking that all along.
The room is beautiful!!

Oh..I like the green chanderlier
Oh Nicky!! I love, love, love those beds! They are beautiful – the room is looking amazing
I vote for option 1 when it comes to the light fixtures.

On the night we arrived home from Ethiopia, our 8 year old daughter brought her brother into her room to introduce him to her fish. His eyes lit up and he said “cut, cut, hungry!”. She moved her fish to a very high dresser and kept a close eye on her brother for a couple of days…
!
The girls’ room looks great. I like the first light fixture – and love how you are hanging onto that much loved change table
Super cute kids room! Very traditional meets a bit of modern!
I like Option #1!
Ooh! I’m the first to comment! I love the room – it’s so beautiful and homey. Everything has a story and has character. So glad to read about all these little decisions and jobs you must do after referral!
My vote is for the bronze chandelier – Option 2.
PS. The dollhouse is so lovely!
Wow, you dudes are fast at doing a room! We’re trying to spread it all out so we have something to do during THIS wait. As for the vote…well the green goes good with the green chest and quilts in the room but the bronze one looks a little more girly.
Just my 2 cents, speedy crew
Oh my gosh I just love the room!! I love the quilts and the homey feeling. Really, really nice. I definately pick the green one.
Natasha
Beautiful room! I like #1.
Absolutely beautiful, cozy and pretty. I love the room style. You are talented at mixing vintage treasures with modern pieces to create an individual look for your girls. (By the way, we pick the first option)
Love the beds! And option 1. Glad to see you guys in nesting mode. Your girls are sure to be thrilled with their new room (and family)!
I love the room especially the quilts! My vote is for light #2 with more beads and bobbles hanging down and some girly, frilly lampshades to cover the lights.

Oooo… it seems like the green one is winning out (although I like the shades idea……..
Purchasing stuff and decorating for little girls is a total guilty pleasure!
Shauna – your story about the “cut cut” CRACKS ME UP. Actually, it killed my husband. He’s like “SEE, that’s why we should not buy any fish!” – He’s not too keen on more pets to look after, but I tell him that the fish will be the girls’, and it’ll teach them to care and be responsible. With supervision, of course. No fish shall die on our watch!
Nicky
Gorgeous room!! So earthy and warm feeling! Your girls will love it I’m sure!
I love the old-fashioned look of the room…very classic! My vote is for #2.
Beautiful rooms, Guys! Nice job!

Definately the Green one – love the chandelier idea too!
Love the vintage and homey feel to the room! Great job! And I love Option #2!
Sherri
What a fabulous room, very cozy and inviting. Like the others, I love the quilts. And i pick Option 1 – from what I can see, I think the scale might be better and the color goes better.
The green one i my hubby’s favorite too… so I think he’ll pick one up after wrk and bring it home to see how it fits on Friday.
Oh, and I forgot to say that we are also ading curtains, ha ha. A little too open as is.
Nicky
Love the chandelier and great job on the room!
Just wanted to say that I am so excited for you guys!! My hubby and I are looking forward to adopting from Ethiopia within the next 2 years and are hoping for twins! I can barely stand the wait!!!! Fortunately we have our 4 very busy children including our still nursing 2 year old to keep us occupied in the mean time.
The room is looking awesome! Good luck mama and daddy-o!
Option #1. Love the room; very cozy. This is the kind of thing that helps THIS wait go (a bit) faster. Or not drag so long. And it won’t be as long as the wait for referral, that much is sure.
Beautiful room!! I love the vintage look and the beds. I vote for option #1.
Love their rooms- perfect. AND, i LIKE THE BRONZE (OOPSdidn;t know I’d hit Caps lock
the headboards would be perfect for antique style names stenciled on with a little ivy, or do you not want to mess with them?
Probably not mess with them…
but my fav is the bronze too – but I think J is going to buy the green one today……..
Option #1 and wow am I impressed with your progress! You’re ahead of me!!
