A new identity – a new day
“I have a dream… that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
What a night it was. Jrock and I were so hoping that Obama would win… not only do we think he’s a good leader for the US – but what an amazing role model to have just next door. A black man in White House. Wow.
Our Canadian society is so influenced by American media – our kids especially are so prey to American TV stereotypes. I dare say that Barak Obama as US President will reframe our North American society’s view of what a person of colour can achieve, and even, represent. Last night, he represented a movement of youth, vitality, hope, positivity and inclusiveness.
To leave you with some of the inspiration we felt last night:

I too felt that the world turned on Tuesday. My eyes keep welling up with tears when I think about it and my mind is filled with visions of the afro- american faces seen on the T.V. that night. The mayor of our small town is from Kenya and now we see this victory for Obama and the American peopl. Truly HOPE for Martin Luther King Junior’s dream is shining today and it cannot help but bless our children. P.
I cried so many times that night, and since. I just so believe now that when I saw to Mal she can be anything she wants to be, that it’a TRUE. Have you noticed that all the cnd adoption blogs blogged Obama and the win?? Love it!
It’s a new day for the world – that can’t be overstated.
