Quite the Scare

May. 3rd | Posted by 7 comments

Our best little buddy Hamish gave us quite a scare the last few days.  Three days ago, he came home from the groomers (you can see his summer haircut below) and he was really down and out.  Really lethargic, and he didn’t want to eat anything.

Well, he got a lot worse, and the vet tentatively diagnosed him as having pancreatitis… which can be fatal if you don’t get it under control, and depending on which type he had. We put him on IV for 3 days and… finally…. he seemed to perk up and started eating.

We think he’s in the clear now – I can hear him barking his head off outside, which is always a good sign :-)  Poor little Hamie.  He’s slept in my bed almost everynight for 9 years – I can tell you I was an absolute wreck for the past few days.  Jrock was really distraught too – I don’t think either of us has slept much. Between getting up in the night to give him more antibiotics and crashing at the vet clinic during the day to keep him company, I’m a little bit of a wreck.  But thank goodness, he seems much better now.

much more alert and perky, but still pretty tired

Poor little Hamish. I’m so glad he’s on the mend. The picture of his little mates watching over him is too sweet for words.

Oh poor Hamish. We went through the pancreatitis thing with Opus last year. It’s not fun for pet or his or her people. They’re so helpless and sick and they’re your family — and you just want them to get better. And they just want to get better. It’s always so hard.

I’m so happy to hear Hamish’s is treatable. And it sounds like you have a good vet to take care of your little cutie, which is awesome. Opus’s will wax and wane probably for the rest of her life, but we know what to look for now and we know how to treat it. But it’s so hard seeing her sick!

I can’t imagine what a wreck I’ll be when our child is sick, if how I am when the cats are sick is any indication! And I bet you know the feeling!

Awwww, the picture of Hamish in his crate with his little iv made me all teary!! I don’t blame you for being such a wreck…I would be too. I am soo happy to see that he’s well on his way to recovery. Abby and Cassy send their love to him!

Whew! I totally feel for you. If something happened to our little guy right now, we’d be basket cases. It’s tough though cause we know he is sick and it is only a matter of time. Hopefully a long time.

Glad to hear Hamish is recovering. It’s so hard to see. I know I totally stress when our pup just gets a little lethargic.

(The picture of the rest of the kids keeping him company is too sweet for words.)

I hope he feels better soon. We had our golden retriever at the vet last fall, and what a big scare that was. I was an absolute basket case! They’re are babies, so I hope he perks up soon!
