Waiting Update and Retail Therapy
In the last week we’ve had some news concerning the referral wait.
First, our agency emailed with up-to-date wait times. Our particular request (one child under 1 and one child under 4) changed from an estimate of 2-6 months to, now, 6-10 months. Needless to say, I was somewhat aghast. Jrock was steady, since he had always thought our referral would be later, but I was pretty shaken.
Emailing with our agency rep, we learned that siblings only come into the transition home every couple of weeks (some weeks, a few groups, other times, it can be weeks in between siblings coming in.) That news actually helped give us some sense of timing and how there are probably (my guesstimate) only 1-3 sibling referrals every month.
The third bit of news was good – the one family with a similar request that I know of received their referral. We were very happy for them, (they had a long bumpy road,) but also happy for us to be a little closer ourselves…
Anyway, with the ups and downs, I thought a little retail therapy was due today. So I hit the second hand stores – I got all these groovy girls and baby toys for $27! good deal – even Jrock had to admit. He likes the dolls, too.
All the groovy girls were from the same family at the consignment store, so obviously some other mom has the same doll philosophy as me!

Sweet dolls Nikki!! I love that they are so multicultural!!
Glad that you are doing ok. I even was a “bit” upset when I got them email, changing our timeline… but what can you do?? I feel like I have no right to be upset, since I haven’t been waiting that ong,a nd yet, I still am, this is still hard!
Anyway, my best friend’s dossier went to Ethiopia Aug 21st and they were asking for sibs 0-3 and they have a referral (for 2 boys), so you MUST be next on that list!!!! (same agency) Stay strong, it’s going to happen soon!!!
Can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Oh I am sorry about the dreaded email. That sucks to get word of a delay. It’s got to knock the wind out of your sails a fair bit. I got the Ontario version, but our dates didn’t change significantly. I’m just grateful they’re actually sending information out instead of leaving us in the dark as they usually do. (Or maybe its just OUR case worker who’s bad at it.)
If you need to vent or just someone to have a pity party with, you know where to find me.
But on the upside, it looks like you are a super shopper! Those toys and dolls are a real find — and a real bargain!
That news is poo-ey. Just remember, you won’t always be waiting against a moving target. It sounds like you are towards the top of the waiting list.
I LOVE the dolls. You did some great shopping.
Grrr, how disappointing to have the wait times change just when you think you’re at the end.
I sometimes feel that the longer we wait the longer the wait gets.
Well, hopefully one day soon we will both be sharing our good news!!

Wait times, blahhhh. Hang in there, it sound like maybe we’ll get ours around the same time…CAFAC is looking at 8-13 months (probably closer to the year)….
We waited and waited and waited some more. From beginning to end we waited 26 months. During this time the proposal wait time went out and out and out. It sucks and everyone thinks… yeah but… my file will be different. Be encouraged though… It WILL happen. We are travelling to get Marie in 2 WEEKS. If it happened for us it will happen for you.
