Our Wish List
Today I was writing up a “list of stuff to buy/get/borrow” and realized that we still have a lot of stuff to get!
Because these are our first kids, I don’t know what the protocol is. If we have a shower, do I give the list of stuff to an organizer? Do I send it out to family? I don’t want to buy everything and then have nothing left to get (see, I listen Mom!) but I don’t want to be left with a mad scramble, either…
Here’s the list, for what it’s worth… If anyone has advice on the child/gifting/receiving etiquette, I’d appreciate it!

I love to have book baby showers where I assign an age to the people I invite and we work on building a library for the baby.
But, if you need more practical stuff, I would pass along your list to the person organizing your shower/s! People like to know what you really want/need.
Shauna
Cool – you have so much stuff already!
Having not had a shower but having thrown a few over the years, I would suggest you go ahead and register at a baby store, such as Kid’s /Babies R Us. If you have someone who will throw the shower for you, just let them know where you register and they will let everyone know. It also helps for your family & other people (e.g. co-workers) to know what you need – registering is not just for showers.
Posting your list on your blog was a great idea because you probably can’t register for all of the items. I’m sure the people you know & love will appreciate it and print the list off.
I would also suggest, if there is something you want to buy yourselves (for me that would be the stroller, crib & car seat), just leave it off the list.
Also FYI – my Mom just got me car seats for our boys who will be about 9months and 3years when they arrive home. You can now buy car seats that go from newborn up to 80lbs, so she got the same ones for each boy. This is a HUGE improvement because my 8 year old is now on her 4th car seat. We got them through Sears.ca
Wow! Seeing your list scares me…what are we really getting in to?? I’m hoping for a few hand me downs, and some good direction from family on many of the things above!! Yikes!
Shauna – thatnks for the tips about the car seats – I actually was at a seond hand store yesterday and she said the same thing… so it looks like I’ll be getting two of those…
I think I will send out the evolved list after our referral… I thought about registering, but I don’t want people to feel they have to buy us new stuff or “that specific bath tub.”
If J and I weren’t the first people in our generation on both sides of the family to have kids, there wouldn’t be such a need. Or if we had friends close by that have kids. But being so far from both, ~well, it is quite the list! All I have to say is thank godness for ebay and second hand consignment shops!
Nicky
Great list! I’ll be borrowing it in the future. You’ve thought of things that I wouldn’t have.
I don’t know your family or friends but I think that you can definately expect a shower or two. My mil asked if she could throw me one back when our dossier went to Ethiopia. I told her that she could throw one after our court date but before we travel….
My BF has 4 girls (age 6, 3, &1) the one yr olds are twins so I won’t have to buy clothes for Sofia ever! I’m happy and sad about that.
I’m making a carrier for Grant this weekend. I’ll post pictures of it when it’s done!
Love the list. I forgot how much stuff I had when you and your siblings were young. Just a caution, however. Family and some friends will hold off on purchases until the referral comes through and your paper work is complete. The list becomes much less useful if you now continue to buy these items. Sort of like sending out a Christmas list and then buying the items because you saw them on sale!
We will want to welcome your children into the family with gifts . Pause before you purchase and think of us!
Ok Mum!!!!

* Tip: If you can narrow down to preferred brands, you will be happier when you get the gifts from family and friends!
* I am slowly gathering my favorite items and the ‘it works so well for me’ type gifts for your little ones.
