The look of progress
When we talk to our friends and family on the phone, and they ask how the renos are coming along, we usually say something like “they’re coming…” or “well, it’s VERY dusty in here…” or, on a bad day “the house looks like it’s been bombed out.”
So here’s a peak into what progress looks like for now. It always looks worse before it looks better, of course.

The old electrical box for the upper level, as we were having it replaced.

My lights arrived! And they look great. Boy, the purchasing power from the states is great right now. Anyone looking for some beautiful either heritage or super-modern lights should check out Schoolhouse Electric.

Sometimes you have to make it worse before it’s better. The electrician punched holes all down the lathe and plaster ceiling to put a chandelier above a dining room where there had been none before. Jason it squaring up the holes to patch them.

The cats actually like the chaos… more places to hide. The dogs; not so much. Here is Haatim enjoying the new bedroom chandelier.

And of course, there’s the old “iron clawfoot tub in the hallway” shot. We hauled that monster out of the bathroom and are waiting for the reglazer to pick it up.

Slowly we have more habitable space. I put the chandelier up in the dining room. Except remudding and sanding the holes in the ceiling, painting, replacing the mantel and tiling the fireplace… this room is almost done!
2 Months Down
Whew… two months down. Although time is flying by this fall because of our renos, it seems to be simultaneously tricking by in the “waiting for a referral” area.
You know the hardest part of waiting? Not knowing when the referral will come. Will it be in 6-9 months like the agency says? Or sooner, like the other families who have recently received referrals in 1-2 months? Will we have pictures before Christmas, so we can show them off in person to our friends and family when we travel? Because of work and EI hours and the like, logistically, it would be better to get a referral in December or January. But emotionally, I don’t want to wait that long!!!It kills me. I am never a patient person in the first place, and this is so hard!!!
